Not very long ago I was out with some friends having dinner at a cozy little café in the mountains. It was a beautiful Colorado evening and we sat out on the deck as the sun was setting among the aspens and pines as humming birds and finches and jays nestled in the branches and ate from feeders placed in various places around a garden area. It was lovely. Our conversation drifted from one subject [...]
Frankenstein is one of the few classic monster movies that I did not see on a Saturday afternoon on a UHF channel. No, this film was played in prime time. It was a special movie-of-the-week. A re-showing of a classic film on “regular” TV. It was a big deal. I sat with my mother, my brother, a few aunts and uncles and my grandparents in front of the 17” Trinitron to watch. My grandfather [...]
Welcome everyone to the Nexus of All Realities – A Man-Thing podcast! On the program this time **fanfare** Man-Thing #1! That's right its Battle for the Palace of the Gods the second part of the story which began in the last issue of Adventure into Fear. And it is full of Gerbery weirdness as can be expected but the big news is the fact that this is Manny’s brand new self-titled book. And this was back in [...]
This post was originally published on February 25, 2015 If you’re reading this and you are wondering who Jack Kirby is you obviously don’t read comics. Kirby is one of the most influential artists and creators in the genre, ever. In fact I would go so far as to say a huge swath of the history of comics since the 1960s has been an attempt to emulate or a reaction against his work. He is [...]
NerdSync is a pretty great channel over on the YouTube that deals with all things comic book related. Everyone should head on over there and just watch everything because, if you like comics, this is the place to find thoughtful and insightful takes on history, trivia and philosophy of the medium. And today they posted this wonderful and touching (yeah, I did kinda tear up there at the end I admit it) tribute to Adam [...]
In the previous review on issue #1 I wrote about how I didn’t really enjoy how Stein was approaching the character of Man-Thing – I said the humor just a bit off and just the characterization of Man-Thing was … interesting, but not to my liking. I did however note that I expressed a hope that it could get better and head in a different direction. That has in fact happened. Issue #2 is in fact better and it is in fact headed in a different direction…but only slightly.

Brian is the kinda guy who likes both kinds of music: Country and Western. A little trash, a little junk, a little grease, a little truckin’. Also a big fan of DC and Image and makes concessions for Marvel. Also, an irritable, opinionated bastard.
