NerdSync is a pretty great channel over on the YouTube that deals with all things comic book related. Everyone should head on over there and just watch everything because, if you like comics, this is the place to find thoughtful and insightful takes on history, trivia and philosophy of the medium. And today they posted this wonderful and touching (yeah, I did kinda tear up [...]
In the previous review on issue #1 I wrote about how I didn’t really enjoy how Stein was approaching the character of Man-Thing – I said the humor just a bit off and just the characterization of Man-Thing was … interesting, but not to my liking. I did however note that I expressed a hope that it could get better and head in a different direction. That has in fact happened. Issue #2 is in fact better and it is in fact headed in a different direction…but only slightly.
STORY BY: Daniel Warren Johnson and R.L. Stine ART BY: German Peralta COLORS BY: Mat Lopes and Rachelle Rosenberg COVER BY: Tyler Crook The much anticipated run by Goosebumps author R.L. Stine has arrived and its is undeniably okay. I will say right off I was not overly impressed by the debut issue. That being said I understand that this is a first issue and as such it has a lot of [...]
I saw Logan a week ago and if I were a good blogger/critic I would have immediately wrote up my thoughts and threw them out there for the world to see with a clickbait-able title and some snarky and/or gushing praise and let the sweet, sweet page views roll in. Unfortunately I’m not that kind of writer. Oh, it’s not that I have any kind [...]
The philosophy of motivation. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze's second issue of Black Panther builds directly off the world-building setup of the first. Now that the players have been identified and the political chessboard set, it is time to go a little deeper into the minds of those characters. And what we find are no clear answers; we are left to wonder just who is doing [...]
So the big reveal from last week's Captain America: Steve Rogers first issue is that Captain America - Sentinel of Liberty and all around nice guy - is actually a Nazi. Okay, not a Nazi exactly - a Hydra sleeper agent. But Hydra, no matter how many times its been retconned over the years, has always been Marvel shorthand for Nazi. That means Captain America [...]
The Collected Edition: A Comic Book Podcast is a twice monthly podcast featuring Paul Matthew Carr and Brian K. Reese. Each episode will examine a celebrated (or no-so celebrated) run or story arcs throughout the history of comics. In addition to that there will be periodic articles on comics and related subjects written by the show’s hosts and guest authors from time to time. Enjoy!
Paul Matthew Carr
Paul is a writer, artist and designer. He spends an inordinate amount of time on the Internet blogging about silly things and even more time making things up and then attempting to convince people they are proper stories. He also talks into microphones from time to time.
Brian K. Reese
Brian is the kinda guy who likes both kinds of music: Country and Western. A little trash, a little junk, a little grease, a little truckin’. Also a big fan of DC and Image and makes concessions for Marvel. Also, an irritable, opinionated bastard.
